Love and Human Remains Directed by Denys Arcand

Reviewed by David Ebbert

Love and Human Remains follows the story of two friends and roommates throughout their search for love. The script was adpted by Brad Frasier from his hit autobiographical play Unidentified Human Remains and the True Nature of Love.

Denys Arcand skillfully directs the film's contrasting ideas wherein the love scenes are somewhat erotic while the horror of a psychopathic serial killer are shot to be very eerie and are sometimes disturbing.

The star of the movie is David, (Thomas Gibson of Chicago Hope) a childhood star of a TV sitcom who eventually finds that being a waiter is more “artistically satisfying.” David lives with Candy, (Ruth Marshall), his former lover. Candy is single and wants to find the man of her dreams but is confronted by Geri, a lesbian who works out at the gym.

While all of this is happening, David is out looking for the man of his dreams, too. Throw a serial killer into the pot and it makes for a very good mix of love, lust, horror, sadness and comedy.

Love and Human Remains opens at the Cedar Lee Theatre on July 28. ♡
